The rector of S. Kuznets KhNUE Doctor of Economics Professor Vladimir Ponomarenko told about projects supported by the EU and about  activities of the EU Information Centre at the University, shared plans for projects and initiatives of the cooperation with European Universities and companies.

The delegation attended the Start-up Center «First Capital», which was opened during the project Tempus SUCSID.

The participants of the S. Kuznets KhNUE project team told about the SUCSID project goals and objectives as well as the achieved results. Special attention was paid to the sustainability of the project, which SUCSID demonstrates for 1.5 years after completion. For example, summer and winter school of entrepreneurship are held for pupils and students in Start-up Center «First Capital», what has become a good tradition.

The member of the Ukraine National Team of higher education reforms experts Professor Iryna Zolotaryova who was the moderator of the round table presented projects implemented by the program Erasmus +  and Horizon 2020 in S. Kuznets KhNUE and also in other Universities and Research Institutions in Kharkiv.

Mr. Hugues Mingarelli highly appreciated international activity S. Kuznets KhNUE and the Kharkiv region in general.

Organizers of the event were Startup.Network, Ukrainian Venture Capital and Private Equity Association and the Department of Economic Cybernetics of SSU Academic and Research Institute of Business Technologies “Ukrainian Academy of Banking.” The partners of the event were SSU Startup-Center “New Generation,” Oleg Balatskyi Academic and Research Institute of Finance, Economics and Management of SSU and SSU Business School “Youth&Business”.

There were 2 stages of the 58th Startup Battle. During the first one the representatives of Ukrainian Venture Capital and Private Equity Association and Startup.Network talked about the latest developments and news in the world of investment, gave younger colleagues valuable advice and shared tips for successful startups.

The second stage included presentation of projects. To participate in this event six teams were selected. They presented their business ideas to the discretion of the expert jury: the representatives of businesses, projects supporting start-up movement, and academics.

Two projects won. According to the vote of experts Pharmacological guide “PharmGuide” scored the most points. The project was designed for a family doctor (and other stakeholders) to get quick access to basic information on medicines. It works offline (without internet access) on Android operating system.

According to the results of guests’ online-voting Center of adaptive technologies gained victory. The purpose of this startup is the creation of research center to provide services, training experts and consulting in the field of three-dimensional printing and scanning, studying fields of application of additive manufacturing technologies, making 3D-printers and 3D-scanners on request.

The winners will participate in the Grand Autumn Finale of Startup Battle held in Kyiv on October 13.

The organizers are convinced that holding such an event in Sumy is evidence of innovative for Ukraine and Sumy region startup movement, which allows discovering new investment opportunities for young people and implementing business ideas. The Department of Economic Cybernetics of SSU Academic and Research Institute of Business Technologies “Ukrainian Academy of Banking” is grateful to the co-organizers and partners for supporting the project.

The project was organized by the Department for Imrovement of Regional Competitiveness, Kharkiv Regional State Administration, S.Kuznets Kharkiv National University of Economics, Regional Inter-University Start-up Center “First Capital”, which operates in S.Kuznets KNUE, National Aerospace University, Kharkiv National University of Radioelectronics, KarazinStartups and Public Union “Kharkiv IT Cluster”. The main purpose of the event was to develop environment for technological business in Kharkiv region.

IT-specialists as well as marketers and managers and lawyers (young people under the age of 35 years) participated in the “Hackathon-1654″. Three teams competed in each section. In total there were 58 participants, who worked for 36 hours to solve the problems. Nine experts were mentors for teams and evaluated the results of their work. 

The event lasted for one and a half day, during which the participants had to perform the task required. Team members have had to develop and submit for consideration of the jury their decision of tasks using IT technologies. Three case studies (sections) were asked to the participants of “Hackathon-1654″. All of them were related to an increase of the competitiveness of the Kharkiv region and ensuring its sustainable development. The first case contained a business ideas in the field of increasing the export potential of the region. The second – concerned the interaction of international donors and attracting financial assistance for internally displaced persons. And the third was about the creation of systems for schoolchildren’s distance learning.

Winners of’ Hackathon-1654 “were awarded with certificates and gifts from the following partners: EPAM, Microsoft Ukraine, Startup.Network, the legal company ILF.

This course has been designed by Professors of the Comrat State University and includes modules in the amount of 40 hours of “Business Planning” (authors: Kuraksin S., Ghenova S., Kara M., Levitskaya A.) and training “Personal Growth” (L. Ibrishim ). Also invited experts – practice: representatives of Chamber of Registration Republic of  Moldova, the Tax Inspectorate (ATU Republic of  Moldova) and FINCOMBANK (Republic of Moldova).

The most commercially promising Start – up projects with an innovative accompaniment named projects of  KDU students: “Creating an online service to provide services” (Tomaily Harlampii), “Organization of quail farm with autonomous energy supply biogas” (Pulev Eugene), “Mini pastry with innovative product PROTELAK “(Diana Piron).

Members of the jury composed of representatives of: the Office of Economic Development of ATU Gagauzia, a Branch of Chamber of Commerce in ATU Gagauzia, ODIMM (Republic of Moldova), director of the branch FINCOMBANK (Republic of Moldova), and Director of Business Incubator Chadyr – Lunga (Republic of Moldova).

There were winners in three categories:

• «Innovative project” – Kapsamun Vasilii (KDU, Comrat) “Oxygen Therapy”;

• «Social projects” – Colak Alexander (Business Incubator, Chadyr-Lunga) “Manufacture of wood”;

• «Viability of the project” – a student of 10th class Ormanzhi Anastasia (Chadyr-Lunga) – “Catering”.

Funding for this competition was carried out by the Agency of innovation and technology transfer (AITT) of the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Moldova, which supports the initiative in the development of innovative entrepreneurship (from 2004) and is co-founder InnoCenter KDU (since 2012).

The recommendations of experts obtained as a result of the crash- tests had made it possible to continue the study of the projects at the qualitatively new level. The recommendations of experts regarding one of 6 projects represented on the crash- tests led to the author’s revision of the concept and the discovery of the own company in other direction. This student (Dmitrii Nikolenko) became the first graduate of the startup- center   «New   Development».

As a result of conducting the dissemination after the 15^th of October 2015 2 teams with the projects in  IT sphere and in the sphere of the innovation technologies for building materials with the operating names «Work  Portal» and  «Concrete   Design» joined to the work of center. The mentors and the regime of instruction in the center are determined for the teams.

The activity of startup- center was demonstrated in the following forms of activity:

- the development of the current projects of the residents’ commands;

- the conducting of dissemination among the university students and by the representatives of regional authority (a meeting with the deputies of Kharkov region governor in the framework of regional project “School of leadership”;

- the organization and conducting information seminars with the students of the 1^st course (according to the timetable the seminars were carried out on Wednesdays from14-30 to 16-00 in the startup- center venue). On the forum took part attended by more than 250 representatives from business, government, economic experts from 8 countries

Director of the InnoCentr KDU Assoc. Prof. Dr. Levitskaya Alla told entrepreneurs at the forum on the ongoing work with young initiative people: “At present, we conduct research in framework of the competition of business ideas together with the University of Caselle ( Germany). Business game will allow to evaluate the quality of the courses that we offer to young people who want to do business. Finished the first and the second stages of the business game  which young people got and have already earned a small amount of money. Through the game, we want to assess the risk appetite of participants”

According to the Director of the InnoCentr KDU, the participants finished training courses that allow them to write their own business plans and go through the next stage – the develop of the  business plans. Our competition is not global, we received different kinds of the projects. We call this concurs like a competition of mini-projects, where take part more often the young people whose ideas do not require special expenses. For them we provide  a special training (course), where they will receive-depth knowledge of marketing, finance. We have also decided to prepare the training of «personal growth», so there is a perception that in the business is not important knowledge, but is very important a self-confidence. We hope that this will help them in the future to make the first Start up step”

The meeting was dedicated to discussing the major achievements, critical moments in the project and lessons learned, the financial situation within the project and preparation for the submission of the Final Report as well as disseminating project’s results.

The meeting was attended by representatives of consortium’s universities from United Kingdom, France, Portugal, Finland, Belarus, Moldova, Universities of Ukraine: Kharkiv National University of Economics named after Simon Kuznets, Kharkiv National University of Civil Engineering and Architecture, Kharkiv National University of Municipal Economy named after O.M. Beketov, Sumy State University.  Besides external experts in the field of business and education took part in the International workshop “Impact of European TEMPUS projects and lessons learned” which was conducted in the frame of SUCSID meeting. Among them:

David Parrish – leading British business consultant in the field of the creative economy;

Mycola Drobotenko – Head of the Fund for assistance Development of Talented and presentable youth;

Tetyana Kovaljuk – Scientific Secretary of National Methodical Commission in “Informatics and Computer Science” in Ukraine.

During the workshop inter-university Start-up centers presented their contribution to SUCSID within the work-packages and outputs to date, the key issues of IDP (Innovation Development Presentation and Promotion) courses piloting and the Crash Tests conducting, their activities during the project lifetime and plans for after project period.

Sufficient attention at the meeting was paid to discussing the issues of project results’ sustainability. During the meeting universities had an opportunity to talk face-to-face to external experts and to sign agreements on cooperation.
