Opening of the Regional Inter-university Start-up center of TNTU

On the 22nd of November the opening ceremony of the Regional Inter-university Start-up center of TNTU took place in Ternopil Ivan Puluj National Technical University. The Start-up center is established within the framework of the Tempus project SUCSID “Inter-university Start-up centers for students’ innovations development & promotion” http://sucsid.competence.in.ua/.

The rector, the university administration, heads of the regional authorities, representatives of the city administration, bankers, businessmen and foreign visitors participated in the ceremonial opening of the Start-up center. The rector of the university prof. During the opening ceremony of the Start-up center the students organized a creative flash mob – they sowed the seeds of the ideas and also started the business nursery by planting the Cossack juniper trees in the university yard. All the activities symbolized the main aim of the newly established Start-up center – the development of the innovative thinking of the youth.

The trainers of the Start-up center, PhD Olha Mosii and PhD Olena Sorokivska carried out the first workshop “Innovation business nursery” for the teams of faculties and colleges of TNTU. The main idea of the workshop, which was held in the form of business game, was to fill in the “Business map” i.e. to consider the idea of the establishment of the business, name the company, determine the consumer of the goods or services, point out its competitiveness, the sales channel, necessary investments to the development and implementation of the goods or services.

Simultaneously with the above-mentioned activities the contact tables with the information about Tempus project were presented in the universities of Ternopil and colleges of TNTU. One of the main tasks of the European project of TNTU is the creation of the network of innovative start-up centers in the educational establishments – business nurseries of the development of youth entrepreneurship.

According to the programme of the Start-up forum the panel discussion “Innovation activity as a factor of securing the economic growth of the region” was held in reading hall of the sci-tech library of Ternopil Ivan Puluj National Technical University on the 22nd of November. The representatives of the authorities, employers, business and employment offices participated in the panel discussion. Together with the scientists of the technical university, the head of the employers’ organization of Ternopil region, head of Ternopil production association “Ternopilgas” Oleh Karavanskyi, head of the strategic development department of the city council Yurii Deineka, board member of the Regional department of Ukrainian Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs, executive director of the retail and entertainment centre “Podoliany” Mykhailo Ibrahimov, director of the Science Park “Innovation & Investment cluster Ternopil” Hryhorii Khymych, deputy director of the Ternopil regional employment center Oleksandra Ostrovska, director of the education and consulting company “Profi-center” Volodymyr Hevko, head of Ternopil public organization “Hurtom” Ihor Kovalyk, president of the training company “O.Vitta” Mykola Sapsan and also the representatives of the banks and business circles of Ternopil region took part in the discussion of the innovative activity of the region.

The questions of the development of innovation infrastructure of Ternopil region, the role of the newly established Start-up center, the mobilization of the investment and credit resources for the regional investment projects, the proposals of the European funds and programs for the development of regional programs, and also the questions of commercialization of scientific developments, regulatory support of start-ups and youth enterprise, educational programs for development of the entrepreneurship among the youth were considered during the panel discussion. The speakers repeatedly emphasized the significant potential of the graduates of technical universities, most of which are already successful business leaders in Ternopil region. The presentations emphasized that the activities of business incubators of 1990s created the conditions for the quick start of business, but in present the economic growth of the region is impossible without innovations, particularly those in information technologies, housing and public services, agriculture and electric power industry. According to the results of the panel discussion the recommendations to the city and regional innovation development programs will be developed.

The team of the TNTU Startup Center invites students, especially graduates of engineering professions to register for workshops in entrepreneurship, development of start-ups and participation in European regional and urban innovation competitions supported by the European Tempus Project.
