SSU develops the startup movement in Sumy region
The startup center “New Generation” at SSU gives an opportunity for everyone to translate an idea into innovation projects and business. The initiative is implemented in the framework of the European Union project TEMPUS SUCSID “Inter-university start-up centers for students’ innovations development & promotion”. The first pilot group is created and represented by students of various disciplines and different courses. The group will receive practical training, developed by leading professors from partner universities. The 2-weeks course “Business Basics” will be conducted by Dr. Sc. in Economics, Professor Leonid Melnyk and Candidate of Sc. in Economics Oleksandr Kubatko along with such business representatives as director LF “Special Equipment” Oleksandr Derykolenko, representative of “Business Jet” Yevhen Kovalenko, doctoral student of University of Guelph (Canada), ex-partner of the company Light Software (Ukraine) Serhii Pisarenko, freelancer Andrii Lohvin, director of “Promotion Agency “Sumy” Maryna Karpishchenko.
The next step is the following courses: “Intellectual Property”, “Leadership and Team Management”, “Business Planning of Startup Projects”, “Innovation Management”. The startup center of SSU plans to promote business environment, namely, to conduct educational seminars and trainings, mini-lectures on technology entrepreneurship, business game “Sumy Entrepreneur”, to support startup pioneers, and to organize the certification according to programmes of leading IT companies.
Sumy State University is a member of the project TEMPUS SUCSID for about one year. The workinggroup is run by Vice-rector for scientific and pedagogical work, international affairs and technical support Volodymyr Lyubchak and the Head of the International Affairs Office Kostiantyn Kyrychenko. SSU teachers get trainings at the leading universities of France, Portugal, England and Sweden for gaining European experience in business. SSU representatives participate in meetings and web conferences with partners from Kharkiv, Ternopil, Minsk (Belarus), Comrat, Chisinau (Moldova). Distance learning system, developed at SSU, is chosen by the international project team as a basis for creating online courses.
